“It was inevitable. The landscapes and beauty of times gone by are blotted. We covet pockets of nature now where once people huddled to villages and towns as pockets of security. We let machines do our work, then our thinking. We put a stop to some of that, but…

we had one thing of the old beauty left, to die. A common thread, now that’s gone too.

We were once on the hill, looking out to the flatlands, then the bay and the crystal sea. The view is cut, the flatlands now rise in steel and concrete and glass, the bay is swallowed by crane, iron and reclamation, and the view of a grey ocean is entirely hidden from view. In fact, our lovely little hill, as we sat watching, was mined from beneath our feet.”
